Seen & Heard: Groundhog celebrations at Duane Park

CELEBRATE THE GROUNDHOG AT DUANE PARK
The Friends of Duane Park will hold its two annual celebrations of the groundhog: First there’s the carving of the rodent out of ice on Monday from 3 to 5p — a free event open to all. And second is their fundraiser, a bar crawl from 6:30 to 8p at a select group of spots in the neighborhood offering signature drinks for the night. Tickets are $125.

LUNAR NEW YEAR PARTY AT PS 150
PS 150 will host its 4th Annual Downtown Lunar New Year Celebration on Saturday, January 31, from 2 to 5p. It’s the year of the horse! There will be raffles, a lion dance, performances from the Kinding Sindaw Traditional Philippines Dance Team and Woorigarak Korean Dance, tastings from local restaurants, a martial arts demonstration, Chinese sugar painting and more. Tickets are $50 for people over 12 and $40 for kids 2 to 12. Buy them here.

CANDIDATE FORUMS FOR STATE OFFICES
The Downtown Independent Democrats will host a candidate forum for our seats for state senate and assembly on Wednesday, January 14, 6:30p, at the Flea Theater, 20 Thomas. for a candidate forum for NYS Senate District 27, and NYS Assembly Districts 61, 65 and 66. POLICE PATROL FOR COUNTERFEIT VENDORS
It was a quiet day on the corner of Broadway and Canal when I went by last week — there were two police cars and not even many guys stating around. A reprieve.
