35 YEARS AT TRIBECA GRILL
Tracy Nieporent, who with his brother established the restaurant scene in Tribeca starting with Montrachet and then Nobu, Tribeca Grill and others, is a guest on the podcast “Hospitality and Politics with Andrew Rigie.” The podcast explores the challenge of rebuilding after 9/11, the resilience to survive in the restaurant industry and what the future looks like for Tracy. Tracy is a partner at Myriad Restaurant Group and he ran restaurant week for the city’s tourism bureau for years.

BOWIE AT THE BATTERY
The Battery recalled on its Instagram the time David Bowie played five songs to a small crowd in the park in 2002 — as part of the fledgling Tribeca Film Festival. He also mentioned the park in his 2003 song “New Killer Star,” a reflection on the world post 9/11:
See the great white scar
Over Battery Park
Then a flare glides over
But I won’t look at that scar

FREE POP-UP SPACES FOR FLEDGLING RETAIL
Applications are now open for RE:Store, a new program from the Downtown Alliance giving small business owners the chance to open in one of three free temporary pop-up storefronts in Lower Manhattan. Applications will be accepted until February 6. More info can be found here. Established businesses looking for a new outpost, artists looking to sell their wares, and any other small business entrepreneurs with a great idea and solid business plan are encouraged to apply. Successful applicants will receive a free storefront to showcase their retail concept for a three month period, beginning around Memorial Day 2026. They will also receive up to $15,000 in grant funding for fit-out and operating expenses. Participants will also receive assistance with fit-out, design, permitting and insurance.

ALL THE WORLD’S A STAGE AT GALERIE56
Tribecan and architect Lee F. Mindel’s collectible design gallery at 56 Leonard is hosting an exhibit called “All the World’s a Stage” – a transatlantic collaboration between Galerie56 and London dealer Themes & Variations through February 4. There are monumental sculptures by Mark Brazier Jones, new and archival works by Tom Dixon (whose store will open this week on Franklin), fantastical wire sculptures by Milanese artist Benedetta Mori Ubaldini and more.
