Hundreds of anti-ICE protestors descended on the Hilton Garden Inn Tribeca on Sixth and Lispenard last night, filling the sidewalks and street and raiding the lobby. I am waiting on the number of arrests from the NYPD, but I think it is in the dozens. More than 60 people were arrested.
J. first sent word when she caught this Instagram post; the protestors had gotten word that the Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers were staying at the hotel. (The hotel was just sold, but there are rooms available, so I guess it’s possible.)
The NYPD press office’s preliminary report last night said they received a 911 call at around 6p for a demonstration at 39 Avenue of the Americas. Protestors had entered the lobby of the hotel and were obstructing pedestrian flow on the sidewalk. Orders from the officers to disperse were ignored for 45 minutes, so arrests were made.
When I went by at around 10p there were no signs of protest, but a police car was stationed alongside the hotel with its lights flashing. PIX11 News had footage from inside the hotel below.
