Because J. sent this amazing shot of the Battery Park City ferry terminal, above, I had to run some more snow pics. (Also, thanks to pals who planned ahead, we got in a cross-country ski in Rockefeller Park, where we met a snow bunny. Only in New York.)

But I also have to note that the curb cuts around the neighborhood are a wreck — this is the city’s responsibility — and there are lots of buildings that have not bothered to shovel. I had to walk to Chinatown and back this morning and it was in no way accessible. At the corner of Chambers and Centre — just east of City Hall — a stranger had to help a woman carry her stroller across the street.

There are several intersections — Duane and West Broadway for one — where there’s not a clear corner.

The only group in Tribeca that deserves credit is Bogardus Plaza, whose team from ACE not only shoveled but salted. (When I went through at around 4p yesterday, there were five guys from the MTA holding shovels and watching one person shovel the subway stairs.)

  1. please, please tell me where the rabbit came from!

  2. Morgan’s Market wins the honor of best retail community member — not only do they keep their sidewalk and 2 curb cuts as clear as possible during storms, but also repeatedly open the curb cuts each time a plow comes by and piles up snow to block them.

  3. Morgan’s Market are the BEST!!!

  4. I was really surprised that the sidewalk on Hudson next to Duane Park had not been shoved as of Tuesday!

    • That stretch of sidewalk is ALWAYS one of the last to be cleared, which makes no sense to me because it his heavily trafficked. I presume the Parks Dept is responsible. As of today (Thu) it has finally been cleared, along with the park itself.

  5. The curb cuts remain a travesty! At least many of the sidewalks are clear now, although they were quite slippery and dangerous on Tuesday/Wednesday. It was impossible to navigate a stroller on Tuesday and Wednesday.

  6. The problem of W. Broadway’s street crossings is the clearing of snow from the bike lanes. When the plows get to the corner they leave the cleared snow from the street on the corner in the crosswalk. Also many stores that take up so much street footage with tables and signage the rest of the year, cleared only a tiny path of snow leaving the rest of the sidewalk hazardous and icy, including not clearing a path at the corner. Example: Bluestone Lane
