Seen & Heard: Openings and closings at the malls

AMAZON GO WILL CLOSE ON FEBRUARY 1
J. reported that Amazon Go at Brookfield Place will close permanently on Sunday. You might recall that was the weird store with no checkout people that opened there in 2019.

FERRAGAMO HAS CLOSED PERMANENTLY
And Ferragamo in Brookfield Place is also closed permanently. They still have a store in Soho. (this also from J., though I confirmed with the Soho store.)

ALCHEMY. OPENS AT THE OCULUS
N. sent a note that alchemy., a Brooklyn-based clothing store that has a shop at JFK Terminal 8 and in Red Hook, has opened in the Westfield mall. They carry jewelry, apparel, gifts, totes, candles and more. (The period is included in the name.)

GÜDSPORT OPEN AT THE OCULUS
There’s also a gym called Gudsport at Arena One that just opened at the Oculus. I can’t tell from the website what they do! This is the description: “We offer group training classes built around our specialized Four-Quarter Format, as well as private training led by some of NYC’s most elite coaches.” More info here.

  1. Also new in Westfield is Barizi, which has colorful, pretty things that brighten up one of the corridors. From the Westfield web site:
“BARIZI is a design-led home and lifestyle store offering a curated selection of objects for everyday living. The store brings together contemporary ceramics, home fragrance, textiles, body care, and leather accessories sourced from independent brands and makers around the world. Each piece is selected for its craftsmanship, material quality, and timeless appeal.”
