Bidding for a piece of Tribeca restaurant history

When Racine’s converted to Chambers, they auctioned off their old tableware and glasses — to start fresh. I claimed some covered soup bowls and stemless wine glasses, and I am so glad I did. They are 1) way nicer than my Crate & Barrel sale collections and 2) a fun neighborhood souvenir.

So I was very surprised to see that the chandeliers from Tribeca Grill plus all the other accoutrement from the restaurant, which closed a year ago after 35 years on the corner of Greenwich and Franklin, have not been scooped up in the online auction. The “inverted sombrero” pendant chandeliers are pricey — $2000 — but they were designed by longtime Tribecan and noted architect David Rockwell in collaboration with Trimble Studio out of stained-glass, brass and marble. And they are super cool.

There’s also a red perma-steel cooler; barstools with the brass footrail; Champion juicers; lots of cast iron pans; steel lockers (so cool!); wine decanters; and every kind of kitchen pan, pot and tool you can think of. Piles and piles of stuff. If you have a restaurant, you should be pawing through this.

The auction ends today at 3:30p.

  1. Maybe they shouldn’t have set the minimum at 2000 dollars!
