NEW YORK ACADEMY OF ART & EPSTEIN
It turns out that The New York Academy of Art on White Street had a decades-long relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, and while The New York Times made the connection first in 2019, it is now resurfacing and the paper did an even deeper dive. Epstein served on the board of the school, which was founded by Andy Warhol and a crew of other noted artists in 1982, in the early 1990s and was later courted by the staff and board members as recently as 2013 (Epstein died in prison in 2019). He attended the academy’s fund-raising events, including the Tribeca Ball and Take Home a Nude auction. From The Times: “In a statement emailed to students and alumni on Friday, the board expressed regret for the academy’s long association with Mr. Epstein. It also said the chair of the academy’s board would retire in April, a month earlier than expected.” The school has promised to give away the money (tens of thousands) he donated over the years.
