Smorgasburg concept coming to Governors Island

The Trust for Governors Island announced that a new food concept created by Smorgasburg will open on the island in May, taking the former Island Oyster space.

Six Coasts by Smorgasburg” will take over 32,000 square feet of waterfront facing Downtown. The menu will draw on six coastal identities across the Americas — from Nova Scotia to Baja to Bahia and the Caribbean — with a menu of seasonal seafood and tropical cocktails. The restaurant will be designed as a family-friendly gathering place with curated music and cultural programming.

The bar will seat 100!

Island Oyster opened on the island in 2017 and closed at the end of the season on October 31, 2025. The Trust for Governors Island put out a request for proposals not long afterwards.
