The developer of Skyhouse, the remarkable penthouse on Nassau known for its curling stainless steel slide, sent this video with an interview with the architects. It’s worth a watch.
FLASHBACK: NELSON MANDELA OPENS THE FILM FESTIVAL
The Tribeca Film Festival, which turns 25 this year, had a look back on the spring of 2002, when Nelson Mandela opened the inaugural festival. These were his words: “The collective sorrow of a community often brings out the strength and resilience in human beings. The arts in general, and films in particular, represent some of the most powerful ways in which understanding and respect can be promoted…almost literally transport[ing] us into the world of others.” See the Instagram here.
CHIP CITY STILL RECOVERING FROM FLOOD
I checked in with Chip City, since it seems they’ve been shuttered for a while, and the team said while they do not have a firm reopening date at this time, they are anticipating the end of May, possibly extending into June. Repairs for the damage sustained from the flood will begin in the next few weeks.
RENEE GREEN AT BORTOLAMI
Bortolami Gallery will host a show from Renée Green opening Friday through May 16 at 55 Walker. It includes 73 black-and-white photographs mounted in a linear sequence along the gallery’s perimeter, a three-part video, and layered soundtracks in English and French. Since the late 1980s, Green has combined archival and documentary methods with found forms of language to produce work that slips between public history and personal memory.
