An update on the new businesses for Greenwich

My own husband didn’t remember about Matchaful coming to Greenwich so it seemed like a good time to do an update. Plus Stellar Management sent its own update — some details from that are below.

Keep in mind that Stellar kept these spaces empty for a decade so it is a huge boon to have the lights on again. Most of the previous tenants got the boot in the summer of 2014, with the exception of Tribeca Pizzeria, which lasted till the spring of 2015, and Duane Reade, which is still in that strip.

Here’s the latest:

TOBY’S ESTATE COFFEE ROASTERS
What a hit! The new coffee shop, which has to be the sunniest spot in the neighborhood, seems to be packed all the time. Their request to keep laptops off the prime tables seems to have fallen on deaf ears; still it’s a great addition.

SURAM | FRIEDMANS
Friedman’s owner Jonah Phillips told me this week that he’s hoping for a July opening of the corner spot at N. Moore. This was of course originally developed by Tribecan Josh Lebowitz as Caliza.

TOMPKINS SQUARE BAGELS
The bagelry first opened on Avenue A in 2011 and now has four other locations in the city. Last august they said coming this fall, which would have been last fall…

MATCHAFUL
The matcha tea shop opened first on Canal and West Broadway in 2019, and is now coming to Harrison and Greenwich. Hannah Habes, the founder and “chief matcha officer,” originally predicated this past year end, but clearly that got pushed back.

CHOPT
The salad company dedicated to celebrating flavors from around the world, opened in November 2025

Stellar said the company has put in $5.5M in renovations, including the replacement and expansion of the storefronts with new signage and lighting, as well as upgrades to plumbing, electrical and HVAC within the stores.

Friedmans | Suram: 3,093 square feet
Matchaful | 970 square feet
Tompkins Square Bagels | 2,086 square feet
Toby’s Estate| 2,401 square feet
