••• A sign in the window of Tokyo Bay on Duane says it’s been closed all week, reopening today. When I walked by yesterday, I could see a flashlight beam shining through the papered windows. Maybe there was a leak during last weekend’s cold snap?
••• V.I.P. Nail opened in its new location at 71 Reade (across the street from its former home). Apparently the salon has bee in Tribeca for 25 years.
••• Following in the footsteps of Chelsea Clinton, who recently hosted a benefit for her mother’s presidential campaign at SoulCycle Tribeca, you can Bike for Bogardus [Plaza] on March 5.
••• Alexander and Bonin, the gallery moving from Chelsea to 47 Walker, is throwing an open house on Sunday, February 28, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.: “This installation introduces the new location to the community and presents several large works within the open gallery space pre-construction. A rotating selection of works—including large scale paintings by Matthew Benedict, Michael Buthe, Stefan Kürten, Jorge Macchi and Sylvia Plimack Mangold, and sculptures by Mona Hatoum and Rita McBride—will be on view until construction begins in April. In anticipation of their inaugural exhibition in September, the gallery invites their new neighbors and old friends to attend this preview of the new space. Following the Open House, the ongoing installation of work by gallery artists will be on view by appointment.”
••• “I was walking up the stairs with my son from Washington Market Park to BMCC, and then continued up the next set of stairs where there are a number of picnic tables,” emailed a reader. “This is a frequent walk for us, and yet today a security guard told us we were trespassing—he said that only the college’s students are allowed on campus. This seems very odd as the theater on the campus has public events. What’s the deal? What part of the area around the school is public vs. not public?” It’s a good question, one I hoped to turn into a Nosy Neighbor post, but BMCC wouldn’t respond to repeated emails.
