The incident that’s most cause for concern: “A man entered [the magazine store at 80 Varick] and went up to the cashier. He then took out a gun and held it to the worker’s head.” This was at 12:25 p.m. on a Wednesday. (And I can’t believe the Trib posted an expletive!)

••• “The city’s Health Department issued an advisory on Tuesday that allows dogs to accompany human diners at restaurants with outdoor seating. The move follows the State Legislature’s passage last year of a bill that eased the rules regarding dogs and dining. While the dogs must be licensed and vaccinated against rabies to take a place at the table, the authorities will not insist on seeing your pet’s papers. Instead, participating restaurants must post signs informing customers about the requirements.” At a Tribeca café the other day, I couldn’t believe it when a guy let his huge dog walk around without a leash. —New York Times

••• Mariah Carey will be the subject of a reality TV show on E!, and there’s reason to be hopeful: “In 2002 Ms. Carey showed off her Tribeca penthouse in the MTV show ‘Cribs’; since then the episode has gained a kind of cult status. In it, Ms. Carey’s occasional antics were on full display, including when she showed off a walk-in lingerie closet and dropped into a bathtub wearing little more than a towel. […] ‘I don’t want to do anything that’s exploitative,’ she said. ‘They haven’t been filmed at all yet.
