“Is the Penthouse Burglar back?” emailed a reader early this morning. “My apartment on Murray was broken into this afternoon by a man who accessed the terrace through neighboring roofs. Upon encountering someone in the apartment, he said ‘sorry’ and left.”

I have no idea whether the reader’s terrace door was locked or not, but during a similar spree of break-ins in 2013, many of the incidents occurred because residents left doors open or unsecured. Lock your doors, people! Not every burglar will say “sorry” and leave if confronted! And you might also consider a Nest or Canary camera system to keep an eye on the door. If nothing else, he might see it and move on.
