Seen & Heard: New Bike Dismount Zone at North Cove Marina

••• Announcement from the Battery Park City Authority: “Given the heavy concentration of pedestrians around the North Cove Marina, BPCA is also asking cyclists to dismount their bicycles around the Marina to enhance safety for all users. […] Starting this week, signage notifying the public of the dismount zone will be placed on the lower level pathway along Belvedere Park, at the bottom of the ramp approaching North End Avenue, and on the south side of the Marina near the Police Memorial (at the bottom of Liberty Ramp).”

••• Whenever I pass the west entrance to the Oculus, all I can think is “armadillo butt.”

From IMDB: “Gunslinger Roland Deschain roams an Old West-like landscape in search of the dark tower, in the hopes that reaching it will preserve his dying world.” It stars Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba, and it’s based on a Stephen King book.

••• AJ Tannen tweeted two screenshots from the film of Bright Lights, Big City, which was filmed in 1987, noting that Greenwich and Laight was looking “pretty run down.” (That’s Michael J. Fox.)

  1. Re: Greenwich and Laight in “Bright Lights” – they had to shut down the tunnel for that shoot… Laight is a pretty busy exit lane out of the Holland tunnel

  2. Biking around Brookfield Place has become a nightmare.

  3. Could you please take shots from an identical angle and compare? That would make an excellent ongoing feature.

  4. So am I to understand they are framing the “Bike Dismount Zone” as a suggestion? Or does Brookfield have the right to set rules and arbitrarily ban bike riding in that section of Battery Park?

  5. Re: Tunnel to Towers “local” participation. members of the Tribeca CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) do the crowd control at the end of the T2T run for over 7 years and many of our members do the run as well (Eileen Green has done it every year).
Look for our distinctive green uniforms & Yellow vests and bull horns at the Murray and West street curve entering the Finish Line. We watch for the first male finisher, first female, first wounded warrior etc. It’s a great run, the Sillers do great work, and they throw a great party at the end. When there were noise complaints they even cut out the free beer. Steve was a true hero.
