••• Grub Street gets an early look at Mehtaphor (right), opening Wednesday: “No one is more accustomed to tight squeezes than Jehangir Mehta. If you’ve been to his dollhouse-size restaurant Graffiti, you know what we mean. With Mehtaphor, the pastry chef turned restaurateur expands into comparatively palatial 45-seat quarters on the ground floor of the Duane Street Hotel that he’s somehow loosely divided into a lounge, a bar, a dessert bar, and a dining room proper with a laptop-friendly communal table. As at Graffiti, the menu focuses on Asian-accented small plates, including garlic-cumin crab pizza, amped-up burgers, and shrimp kebabs. Breakfast and dinner launch October 6, with lunch, delivery, cooking classes, and ‘Gastro-Kids’ (an after-school happy hour of sorts) to follow.” There’s a quickie slideshow and PDFs of menus. ••• “The Kardashian sisters are conquering downtown. Kim and Kourtney will begin filming a spinoff of their E! reality series, ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians,’ in Tribeca on Friday. They’ll be using a penthouse at the Smyth Hotel for three months while they expand the family business and find Kim a man. A source said Scott Disick and baby Mason will live in the penthouse with Kourtney for the shoot, with the intention of relocating the family to New York permanently.” (New York Post)
