••• “Until recently, 86 1/2 Nassau Street was home to a budget women’s clothing store. As I reported earlier, it will soon be home to a multi story Two Boots Bar/Lounge Pizza Palace! In the process of transforming the space, a glorious old neon sign has been uncovered advertising Loft’s Candies.” What a beauty. Someone please salvage it! —FiDi Fan Page
••• The New York Times profiles Michael Chow of Mr. Chow.
••• King opens Friday in the former Mekong space at King and Sixth Ave. “The roots of this restaurant were planted in London, where the chefs, Jess Shadbolt and Clare de Boer, first met, and connected with Annie Shi, who will manage the restaurant. The inspiration is the Mediterranean, notably Italian and French food, with dishes like soupe au pistou, a fish stew with saffron aioli, and malfatti dumplings with sage butter. Family-style Sunday lunches will start in the fall.” —New York Times
••• “As the chef Andrew Carmellini prepares to open a southern Italian restaurant, Leuca, this fall in the William Vale hotel in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Westlight is a sort of appetizer. A sprawl of outdoor terraces on the 22nd floor with magnificent views, it’s the first Brooklyn venture for him and his partners in the NoHo Hospitality Group.” (The company also has Locanda Verde and Little Park.) —New York Times
