Governors Island kayaking courtesy Govs Isle••• “Free public kayaking is about to return to Governors Island. A previous kayak dock, located at Pier 101, was damaged beyond repair in 2014. A new, more stable dock was purchased and installed this summer [….] Located in a sheltered cove, the new dock was specially designed for beginning kayakers. The ribbon cutting will take place on Aug. 31 at 11:30 a.m., followed by kayaking opportunities until 4 p.m.” —Downtown Post NYC

••• The New York Times shopping critic reviews Westfield World Trade Center. There’s an interesting take out there about this mall, the mallification of New York City, and more, but this is not it.

courtesy Choza Taqueria••• Choza Taqueria is now open in the mall. I haven’t been to the mall in a couple of weeks, but is there anywhere to sit down and eat your tacos? (Besides Eataly, of course.) I recall Choza and the lobster roll place being stalls more than restaurants. —Eater

  1. As a City person, I don’t now much about Malls, but do know about railroad stations and, our magnificent Grand Central Terminal has a large and beautiful waiting room. The Westfield Mall is an add-on to the real structure which is a train and subway station. There should be a waiting room where one may comfortably sit down and there is not. In an era where security is king and we have lost trash baskets and other amenities, we still ought to have a waiting room.

  2. The Post is horrible with facts and information. The penthouse is 471 washington and it’s actually listed for $24.5, not $30mm. But I guess at that price range, what’s a few million here or there, eh?

  3. Grand Central got rid of their “waiting room” years ago. It is now mostly used as an event and exhibition space.

  4. The taqueria still isn’t open. I think you’re supposed to take it back to your office and eat at your desk. Or the park across the street.

The Japanese candy place in that row opened this week, however, and has some yummy little jelly candies, and today Lady M opened on the level above with $8 slices of cake which look worth trying.

Devon and Blakley looks close to opening and they’re working on Épicerie Boulud.
