Seen & Heard: Big Sale on Kids’ Clothes

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the Bag Snagger fund! I ordered it; not sure exactly when it’ll arrive, but Bag Snaggers co-founder Bill McClelland did tell me how he and his brother spent a great deal of time keeping Collect Pond Park bag-free in their early days—and they even wrote a hymn about it.

Calling all Tribeca artists: “We are preparing to stage an apartment at The Dietz Lantern Building and wanted to see if we could find some local artists who would like to temporarily loan artwork to be displayed in the apartment while it’s on the market,” emailed Corcoran broker David Bonavita. “I was curious if you knew of any Tribeca artists that might be interested the exposure.” He’s at david.bonavita@corcoran.com.

Opening January 12 at Alexander and Bonin: “four solo exhibitions of the work of Jorge Macchi, Rita McBride, Paul Thek, and Jonathas de Andrade.” For Macchi, whose “Umbral (detail)” is pictured at right: “The exhibition at Alexander and Bonin includes ten oil paintings made over the past three years.” McBride: “Premium New Markers, a series of sculptures by Rita McBride will be shown in the entrance gallery. The works are inspired by Joseph Beuys’ 7,000 Oaks project, inaugurated in 1982 at Documenta 7.” Thek: “Eye of the Beholder, an exhibition of works on paper and small paintings by Paul Thek includes a pencil triptych executed in 1970 while he was living and working in Amsterdam.” For de Andrade: “In the video gallery is Jonathas de Andrade’s O Caseiro/The Housekeeper (2016), a work constructed symmetrically in two narratives with synchronized shots. On the left, Joaquim Pedro de Andrade’s 1959 film, O Mestre de Apipucos shows the daily life of [historicist] Gilberto Freyre in his home in Recife. On the right, Jonathas de Andrade constructs a mirroring of Pedro de Andrade’s film, substituting Freyre with a fictional caretaker of the aristocratic residence.”

The Bit’z Kids store on Greenwich has been running a lot of sales lately, which has made me suspicious something is afoot, and then this sign went up…. I called and asked if it meant the store was closing. “No,” was the response, so I asked again, because we may have had a language barrier. “Not yet.” So I asked if that meant the store was closing sooner than later, and she told me to come and enjoy the sale.

The stench at W. Broadway and Warren is only getting worse. When a similar stench was lingering at Church and Chambers, I contacted the MTA, and soon after (although perhaps not as a result), the MTA sent out a truck flush out under the subway grates. I don’t think I have it in me to take on this stench, but anyone/everyone should feel free to give it a try at mta-nyc.custhelp.com/app/ask.

  1. Dear Corcoran Broker, David Bonavita,

Are you paying to rent the furniture and to hire someone to stage this apartment? How about offering to pay artists to “rent” their work as well? Exposure, meh. $$$, yes.
