••• A remarkably ugly façade is being proposed for 187 Franklin. (Tribeca Trib) Normally I think we could be more open to interesting architecture, but I have to agree with Curbed on this one—they called it “the Ed Hardy T-shirt of Tribeca houses.” That’s their artwork, above.
••• “The once-toxic former Deutsche Bank building is finally departing from the skyline. The formerly 42-story tower […] is down to its fifth story. ••• “Downtown students applying to middle school this year will have another choice that is close to home. With fresh paint on the walls and brand new classrooms, the erstwhile Greenwich Village Middle School opened its doors in a newly renovated location at 26 Broadway (entrance on 81 New Street) this September. The move is allowing the school to provide its 244 students with more specialized classes, technology, and space than its former home at 490 Hudson Street could offer.” (

••• “Nine pedestrians have been injured in the past five years while navigating Pearl and Frankfort streets, the DOT said. The intersection involves not just those two roads, but also ramps leading to and from the Brooklyn Bridge and FDR Drive, which means the traffic comes from several directions at once. […] The DOT plans to add new crosswalks and ‘Yield to Pedestrians’ signs [that’ll work—not!], plus crossing signals that will tell people when it’s safe to step off the curb. The DOT will also add a pedestrian refuge island at Dover and Pearl streets and expand an island one block north at Pearl Street and Wagner Place.” (
