Seen & Heard: Cornerstone Shrine

••• When it was first released, the Community Board 1 agenda for the Tribeca Committee included an item about reversing the direction of traffic on Jay Street. The updated agenda indicates that it’s not just wishful thinking by someone on the committee—there will be a presentation by the Department of Transportation. So if you have strong feelings about this, you should go. (And if you do, report back!)

••• There’s a shrine growing at Tribeca’s Cornerstone, closed for a while now because of a Con Edison issue.

••• A reader emailed me that Shigure had closed, but when I called the restaurant, I was told that it had closed for a bit but is now in a soft reopening—a new owner wanted some changes, but it’ll basically be the same style of establishment (and still called Shigure).

••• The Leonard Street gate at 56 Leonard was open, so I took a photo. This is where the silver blob will go.

••• The Department of Transportation appears to have given up entirely on the bollards at Duane and W. Broadway.

••• They’re making progress at the St. Nicholas National Shrine, south of the World Trade Center.

  1. Taka and his crew will be missed at Shigure! Let’s hope they open their own place soon.
