Seen & Heard: Alpha Jets Trailing Patriotic Smoke

••• This is good news: Blue Moon Fish is returning to the Tribeca Greenmarket today.

••• I emailed William Shaw, the Four Seasons hotel contact listed on the signs at the public plaza to the east of 30 Park Place, to see if the plaza is ever going to open. “We are expecting it to be completed and open in the spring of 2017,” was his reply.

••• Today, from Notify NYC: “At approximately 12:00 p.m., eight Alpha Jets will be conducting a flyover from the north down the Hudson River to just south of the Statue of Liberty with trailing red, white, and blue smoke.” Oy. “They will make a second pass from south to north back up the river in Manhattan.” UPDATE: More info from Cobaye, citing this article:

Re: the jet flyover, I believe they were French AF jets, which makes the turn by Lady Liberty a bit more relevant (and the red, white, and blue smoke given double meaning):

They’re part of the Patrouille Acrobatique de France (“Acrobatic Patrol of France”), which is equivalent to America’s Air Force Thunderbirds and Navy Blue Angels, and they’re starting a month-and-a-half-long tour of the United States to celebrate the 100th anniversary of America’s April 6, 1917 entry in World War I. […] The weekend flyover will be the team’s first appearance in North America in more than 30 years.

••• Fashion designer/stylist/director Nicola Formichetti is having a garage sale this weekend.

••• The 100 Barclay website has this wonderful photo (undated and uncredited) of the building and its neighbors.

••• The other night, Adam and I were walking to Two Hands for dinner when we noticed a balcony railing at 56 Leonard was lit up in an interesting way. At first, I wondered whether all balcony railings had that capability, but I figured we’d have seen it by now. I loved the idea, but the effect would’ve been better if they’d lined the underside of the railing with LEDs rather that shoot light up from below; certain spots were much brighter than others (which doesn’t comes across in this cell-phone photo). The second photo if of the street level during the day. I wish they take down that plywood so we can savor the cantilever, which I think is going to be impressive. UPDATE: I swapped out the second photo for a better one, now that the plywood on the Leonard side has been taken down. Click it to see it better.

••• Now up at Now About Art (121 Varick, 7th floor): “Containment, Connection and Contemplation: Three solo exhibitions, held in a spectacular former photography studio loft, brings together three international artists [Kathryn Cameron, Nadia Martinez, and Taka Maruno] using different media who are exploring the intimate relationship between nature and man. The exhibition features works in a dialogue with the viewer that evoke an ambiance between poetry and structure, machinery and subtlety.” Below: “Connection” by Nadia Martinez.

  2. Yesterday, I went to see the 3 solo exhibitions at 121 Varick Street 7 floor. They are amazing!!! The paper sculpture by Kathyryn Cameron is my favorite. Beautiful mixed of texture colors and shapes.
