British fashion company Maharishi is opening a store at 38 Lispenard. The brand actually showed there during a past Fashion Week, but afterward, when I popped in for a chat, they seemed like they wanted to keep the store news private. Now, however, the name is back on the window, there are plans for a July show, and when I emailed to ask when the store might open, I was told they’re shooting for next month.
From the website: “maharishi was founded in 1994 by Hardy Blechman with the great vision to create environmentally sound, fair-trade produced, long-lasting, high-quality, utilitarian clothing. The collection has always included the strong natural fibre hemp as well as organic cottons and upcycled military clothing. maharishi remains a privately owned company, and maintains a strong ethos of respect for nature while utilising the latest technology.” Apparently, the brand was gone for a while, but now it’s back.
There are men’s, women’s, and children’s lines (and even some items for the home). Some examples:
That is utilitarian?
That is not* utilitarian.
It is not utilitarian. No.
I do love it though. I’ve been a huge fan of Maharishi and Hardy Blechman since the 90’s. exciting to finally see a store in NYC.
