••• Walking over to Terroir Tribeca last night, I made a point by passing by Weather Up Tribeca (Duane between W. Broadway and Hudson) to see if it had opened, but no. I guess I go out early—well, we knew that—because on the way home, the paper was off the windows and people were inside. A sign on the door said it was a friends-and-family night. This morning, the paper was back up. Anyway, Selena Ricks of The Dizzy Fizz tweeted this photo. It’s a warm, pretty, elegant space. UPDATE: Selena also tweeted something about a new jazz bar by Sasha Petraske of Milk & Honey, Little Branch, et al. I asked her for details, and she demurred, replying, “As soon as I told him I’m a blogger, he scampered, so I don’t have much to share yet!”

••• Bubby’s has announced that it’ll serve Thanksgiving dinner for the first time—and what’s more, it’s pay-what-you-want, with “a generous portion” of the proceeds being donated to the New York City Rescue Mission. Dinner will be a buffet, and reservations are encouraged.

••• I stopped by Unleashed by Petco on Chambers yesterday, its opening day, to see if I could ask a couple of questions and take a few photos. The space is large, and it was clean, at least for now. The clerk went downstairs to get the manager, who sent up a Post-It with the name and phone number of the regional something-or-other. When I say I’m not going to call him it’s not because I’m pissy about being brushed off. (I’m not! Seriously!) It’s just that I had been ambivalent about covering the store, given that one of the reasons Tribeca is special is that we have fewer of the big chain stores than most neighborhoods, and well, Unleashed by Petco pushed me right off that fence.

••• I recently learned that Downtown Ueshiro Shorin Ryu Karate Dojo, a karate studio, is based at Tribeca Health & Fitness. “I have been training for over 30 years and am currently a sixth-degree black belt,” emailed director Kevin Reymond. “The style, Shorin Ryu  has its roots in Okinawa and is very traditional.”
