In the News: Islamic Center Gets Downsized

••• The Islamic cultural center at 49-51 Park Place, next to the 45 Park Place condo tower, will be two stories, not three, with just over 16,000 square feet of space. No word on whether Jean Nouvel is still designing it. (That’s 45 Park Place rendered in white above. I don’t believe it’s risen above ground level yet.) —Real Estate Weekly

••• “It’s been two years since Danny Meyer announced he would eliminate tipping at all of his company’s restaurants. At the time, it was hailed as a move that could ‘save the hospitality industry,’ and restaurateurs around the country followed suit. […] However, in a series of interviews with both current and former USHG employees, it’s clear that the rollout has been far rockier than anticipated, people have left the company in droves, staff morale has dropped considerably, and the company has been forced to slow down its rollout plan to deal with the fallout. […] At North End Grill, a significant group of workers from both the front-of-house and back-of-house quit.” —Grub Street

••• “The city submitted its proposal Wednesday for [Amazon’s] planned $5 billion campus, offering up Midtown West, Long Island City, the Brooklyn Tech Triangle and Lower Manhattan, according to the city’s Economic Development Corp. […] Potential sites were required to have at least 500,000 square feet of available commercial space by 2019 and and up to 8 million square feet after 2027, as well as be close to public transit and major highways.” All I hear when I read that is traffic. —DNAinfo

••• “The World Trade Center Health Program will host a forum on Saturday (October 21), where Lower Manhattan residents with questions about how their health may have been—or may yet be—impacted by the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.” —Broadsheet

  1. Amazon should select the Trade Center. They can take all of 2 WTC, 5 WTC and the rest of the space in 1 and 3 WTC. Probably wont happen but I’d like to see it.
