Seen & Heard: Ice Rink Opens This Weekend

••• Second-favorite Halloween decoration this year, after this.

••• I hear that Soho Rep theater is hoping to reopen by March.

••• A reader sent in this photo last night, saying that (good news) the sidewalk shed on the Broadway side of 5 Franklin Place was finally being taken down, but (bad news) one of the workers was hurt in the process.

••• The ice-skating rink at Brookfield Place opens “this Saturday, November 4 (weather permitting) at 10 a.m [….] Prices start at $15 for a 90-minute public skating session, plus an additional $5 skate rental fee. Later this season, the Rink will host a grand scale opening ice show, called Stars United on Sunday, December 3. Olympians Melissa Gregory and Denis Petukhov will be joined by fellow Olympians, Kimmie Meissner and Jeremy Abbott, for an evening of skating performances, live music, and cirque style performing arts. Adding to the fun, Billboard 16-time #1 artist and ‘Dance Music Artist of the Decade’ Kristine W, Billboard four-time #1 artist Jason Walker, and Autumn Turner from ‘The Voice,’ will fire up the chilly crowd.”

••• Workers at 187 Franklin got one of the balconies up near the top, with another one on deck.

••• From Community Board 1: “The Spring Advisory Council is composed of immediate neighbors of Spring Studios at 50 Varick Street who will meet regularly with Spring representatives to discuss and resolve any ongoing issues. Applications for the Advisory Council will be accepted by Community Board 1 up to Nov. 7, 2017, for a two-year term. Applications will be considered at the Nov. 8 Licensing and Permits Committee meeting. Applicants must live or work in the immediate surrounding area of Spring Studios. If you are interested, please [email man01@cb.nyc.gov] and indicate briefly your interest in being on the Advisory Council, any relationship you may have to Spring, and include your address and contact information.”
