••• Developer Douglas Durst’s reward for getting out of the way of Diller Island appears to be appointment to the board of directors of the Hudson River Park Trust.
••• Opening tomorrow at the Untitled Space: One Year of Resistance, “featuring the work of more than 80 contemporary artists responding to the political climate in America since the election of Donald Trump.” Below: “America” by Touba Alipour.
••• This Wednesday at Manhattan Youth: “If my kid is smart, why do I feel like something’s off? As part of an ongoing series of workshops for parents of tweens and teens, Manhattan Youth presents Matt Lurrie, Field Manager from Understood.org, a free online resource for parents of kids with learning and attention issues.” It”s based on Laight Street, FYI. “This one hour talk will outline some of the signs and symptoms of children with learning and attention issues, the 1 in 5 who learn, think and behave differently in reading, writing, hyperactivity, impulsivity, spoken language, social skills, math, attention, organization, planning, listening comprehension, or motor skills, and crucially, how you can help your child.” Free RSVP here.
••• The Battery Park City Authority’s “Connect” newsletter profiled Yoshihiro Youkee Nishida, Battery Park City Parks gardener (and a BPC resident, to boot).” Of note: “Since 2006, from April through October on weekends and holidays, he creates chalk drawings in the park. The park itself has become his studio and his canvas is the pavement. His unique designs incorporating BPC’s hex pavers are a beautiful tribute to the idea that everything is integrated in Battery Park City: gardening, art and living.”
I wanted to attend the lecture but there’s no way I can sit still and listen for a whole hour!
