••• I skipped the recent New York Times article about Film Forum’s reopening because it was mostly about directors talking about how important the cinema is. So I missed that the seats had been improved until New York magazine mentioned it. (I still remember being in physical pain during a screening of 8 1/2.) The idea of new seats got me up there to see Jacques Becker’s remarkably contemporary Rendezvous in July from 1949. (Really enjoyed it even if you could easily trim a half hour, but I feel that way about every movie.) You won’t confuse the seats with iPic’s, but they are an improvement.

••• “Here is a picture of a child’s bike, chained outside of the P.S. 89 playground,” emailed a reader. “This particular bike has been there for at least several weeks. Looks new. Previous to that, there was another bike, almost exactly the same, if not the same, chained to a post right by Teardrop Park on Warren Street. It was there for over a year, if not longer, until it was removed a while ago. I know there is a story here. Wondering if (hoping) this is something that would interest you to look into. Not even sure where you’d even start but thought I would toss to you.” I couldn’t even begin to guess how to investigate this, beyond floating it out here….

••• The NYS Department of Transportation will be working on the West Street bike path through the spring, closing it in parts overnight (10 p.m. to 5 a.m.) on weeknights. They’ll be installing new bollards.

••• This isn’t particularly local, but whatever. I deleted the Facebook app from my phone a few weeks ago, and I haven’t regretted it once. I have to use Facebook to disseminate TC posts—it’s a big driver of traffic, even as it keeps tightening the throttle—but I don’t do that on my phone, and I found myself checking the app just because I was bored. (And am I the only one who likes my friends less the more I see of them on Facebook?) Someday I’d like to get off Facebook altogether. One more reason, per the Wall Street Journal: Facebook “has asked large U.S. banks to share detailed financial information about their customers, including card transactions and checking-account balances, as part of an effort to offer new services to users. Facebook increasingly wants to be a platform where people buy and sell goods and services, besides connecting with friends. The company over the past year asked JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo, Citigroup, and U.S. Bancorp to discuss potential offerings it could host for bank customers on Facebook Messenger, said people familiar with the matter.”
