Church Street School of Music and Art will honor local residents Winsome Brown and Claude Arpels and Lisa de Armas and Joe MacIsaac for their dedication to the school, which has been a staple for kids in the nabe for 30 years. The annual gala – called The Event – is scheduled for March 5. Tickets are here.

The event will also honor two teaching artists and Tribeca natives — Z Behl and Azikiwe Mohammed. If your kids are anywhere between 17 and 2 and went to Church Street, those two probably taught them. And if your kids are older than that, then they probably grew up with them here. Director Lisa Eklund Flores said their “brilliance, passion for the arts and deep care for their students has been vital to the formation of this community center’s open, accepting and inspiring culture.”

The school was once on Church Street — it opened in 1990 at number 311 in the second-floor loft — but moved to Warren Street in 1997 and was there till last year, when the operation moved to 41 White, the former Flea Theater. And over the three decades, it’s served more than 10,000 neighborhood kids. “It’s a gem both for Tribeca, and for the city at large,” said Brown, who is on their board and who’s been a guitar student there herself. MacIsaac served as board chair as well, and Arpels has done his time on the CEC (six years) and as co-chair of Taste (three years).
