The latest on City Winery’s move to Pier 57 in Hudson River Park: the new concert space will have two performance venues: a seated 350-seat concert hall and a smaller 150-capacity loft space; a 100-seat capacity restaurant and tasting room with views of the river and the pier’s neighbor, Pier 55; and a fully functioning winery/wine production facility. The barrel storage room will be visible from both from the street and from the main entrance to the pier. The restaurant will have a pizza bar and coffee roasting station and the tasting bars will feature the company’s proprietary tap system featuring over 12 wines straight from the keg. City Winery at Pier 57 will be open 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Construction is starting soon, and the prediction is to have it open early in 2020. The majority of Pier 57 will be taken up by Google, but there will also be a public perimeter and interior space and a public rooftop park.

MING FAY AT SAPAR CONTEMPORARY
Sapar Contemporary at 9 N. Moore will host Beyond Nature, Ming Fay’s first exhibition with the gallery. During the 1980s, Fay was a member of Epoxy Art Group, an artist collective with many members from China and Hong Kong who were living in New York’s vibrant artist haven of the Lower East Side. Finding inspiration from Asian and Asian American traditions, his work, including large-scale fruits and alien plant forms, is familiar yet surreal. The opening reception is on April 18, 6-8p; the show is up through June 1.

SANDWICHES AND SALADS ON CEDAR
There’s a new health food restaurant in Fidi called the Green Healthy Food Cafe at 26 Cedar (William and Pearl); it was formerly the Green Power Café at Equinox. The hot and cold sandwiches, paninis and salads are all $8, which has to be one of the better deals around. Smoothies and juices are all $7.35 and there’s an option to choose a protein and two sides, like salmon plus a baked sweet potato and tofu salad, for $10. They are open 7 to 7 and have breakfast sandwiches too.

ART AND ZEN AT NEW FIDI HOTEL
A new hotel has opened at 24 John – The Artezen. (If you are wondering as I was, here’s the explanation for the spelling: “The Artezen hotel celebrates ‘arte,’ the Italian word connoting excellence in any field or endeavor, and ‘zen,’ which means the constant pursuit of balance and harmony in one’s life.”) Its 89 rooms are furnished by “local artisans,” (my quotes) and it has a focus on design that is inspired by the early tanners who brought the art of shoe-making to Manhattan. A quick search showed a deluxe king room booked for a random weekday in May was $289.
