CB1’s Licensing and Permits Committee approved several liquor licenses this month, creating a lot of news but little controversy:

TIGER TIGER
Well not a chain, but still: The biggest news is the restaurant that was chased from the former Bouley space on Duane was approved for the same concept, different layout, at 105 Hudson at Franklin. Only folks in support of the idea came to the meeting. The hours will be till 1a on weekdays, 2a on Friday and Saturday. The owners also run Chinese Tuxedo and Peachy’s on Doyers Street. TACO DUMBO
The local chain — it started in Dumbo as the name suggests and has four other outposts — will have 80 seats on the third floor of the Oculus as of next month.

TACOMBI
This fast casual Mexican is approved for 74 Broad and will have 87 seats, 7 barstools, open till midnight on weekdays and 1a on weekends. They promised to close the windows by 10p, but will only have background music. A local chain with six stores, but the first one is the charming spot in Nolita on Elizabeth street (photo above). It all started on the beaches of Mexico, with a hollowed out VW bus as the kitchen.

MEZCALI
The owners of Malt House on Maiden Lane are partnering with two Californians from Irvine to open Mezcali at 83 Maiden Lane. The former Sleepy’s has 4,000 square feet and two floors for 115 people on the ground floor and 60 downstairs. They will be serving Cali cuisine as the name suggests. Also promised to close their windows by 9p on weekdays and 10p on weekends.

SANT AMBROEUS
The chain of swank Italian restaurants is opening in Brookfield in 6,900 square feet at 200 Vesey. The restaurant will have 149 seats in the main room and 39 seats in what they called the bar/cafe area. The story goes that it was first opened in 1936 in Milan by two pastry chefs; the first restaurant in the US landed on Madison Avenue in 1982. Their other restaurants are in Soho, the West Village, Southampton and Palm Beach.
