Seen & Heard: Sarabeth’s Forecast

••• Heard from someone who had spoken to the broker of the old Bouley Market space on the southwest corner of W. Broadway and Duane: It has been leased, and not to a restaurant. I’m betting on high-end retail (those windows were made for it). Anyone know anything? Tribecacitizen@gmail.com.

••• The forecast for Sarabeth’s Tribeca (right): “If the gods, the FDNY, and DOB are good, we expect to be serving breakfast, lunch, dinner, tea, and brunch some time in April.”

••• From the Museum of Jewish Heritage: “On Sunday, February 6, from noon to 6 p.m. the Museum of Jewish Heritage—A Living Memorial to the Holocaust will be hosting a Mah Jongg Marathon in conjunction with the wildly popular exhibit, Project Mah Jongg, extended through February 27. Participants will pay a $25 registration fee and will get sponsors to support them in their efforts. The structure of the event will resemble that of a walk-a-thon—no carb-loading required. The suggested minimum donation per sponsor is $18. All proceeds will benefit the Museum.”

••• From Bit’z Kids: “Bit’z Kids has Japanese Picture Story Show ‘Kamishibai’ on Jan 23 at Tribeca store for free! [11–1:30 a.m.] Japanese professional actress Hiroko Yonekura will tell the story to the kids in English with picture card. The story is traditional Japanese story and it has beautiful line and soul. We hope that we can deliver Japanese heart to local kids in New York. This will be the great experience to let the kids understand different culture.”

••• Via DoodleDeals: $59 for six classes at Joffrey Ballet School (a $132 value). Under “Locations,” it lists “34 Ave of the Americas, 3rd floor, Tribeca,” which is confusing because Joffrey Ballet School is at 434 Sixth Ave., and that’s at W. 10th St.—and it also has a “satellite facility” at 357 Broadway (the Gelsey Kirkland Academy of Classical Ballet). So who knows.

••• From Art in General: “Art in General is pleased to announce the launch of our 2011 Open Call, which will be open for submissions until February 15, 2011. Artists interested in being considered for projects with Art in General must prepare and send an online application using the website opencall.artingeneral.org. […] The Open Call is an opportunity for artists to present their current practice to a group of arts professionals, curators, critics, and fellow artists. The selection process takes into account the many and diverse artistic practices that artists develop and use, with the purpose of presenting exhibitions that respond to different ways of being, experiencing, and producing in the world today.” Do you think they’d be interested in my pictures of snow?
