Crowd Sourcing: Free workouts for August

Since my pal invited me to go to the free running workshop at Pier 17 last night — and since it was actually a really fun time despite the fact that I generally only run when the crosswalk light says I have 3 seconds left — I thought a roundup of the free classes in the area might be useful. (Two of the folks in our class last night quit their gyms for the summer and are just making the rounds all over the city. Genius.) But since I am sure I will leave something out, comment below if you know of more. The classes are run by pros from fitness clubs around the city, so it’s also a good way to try out a new gym.

SEAPORT FIT AT PIER 17
Classes by Trooper Fitness, Physique 57 and Mile High Run Club, all at 6:30p on weekdays. See schedule here.

SUMMER FITNESS SERIES AT BROOKFIELD PLACE
Classes by Xtend Barre, Equinox, Tone House, Jane DO and Pure Barre. Classes are Saturdays and Wednesdays and registration opens a week before the date. See schedule here.

HEALTHY ON THE HUDSON at PIER 25
Yoga with the Chelsea Piers instructors and a workout class with the folks from Lululemon Tribeca at Pier 46 in the Village and Pier 25, respectively. See info here.

BATTERY PARK CITY RUNNING CLUB
Work out the old fashioned way and jog the 2.4 miles down and back along the Battery Park City esplanade. Guided with warm-up and cool-down. Meet inside CCSHS at 345 Chambers St. See more info here.
