Seen & Heard: Pere Noel and friends come to Bowling Green

PERE NOEL AND CO. AT ALSATIAN CHRISTMAS MARKET
Would not have known about this if not for Luis: From Friday, Dec. 6, till Sunday, Dec. 22, the tourist board of Alsace, France, will sponsor a Strasbourgian Christmas village in Bowling Green Park that sounds, well, authentic! They are shipping in 30 wooden chalets that will sell handcrafted products (wooden elves, pottery, traditional holiday decor) and culinary specialties (candies, chocolates, gingerbread) of Alsace. There will also be activities for children (Santa’s House, locomotive with hot chestnuts, children’s choir…) and hot mulled wine (!). Hours are 11a to 9p; the event kicks off with a tree lighting this Thursday at 6p.

CITIBANK CONSTRUCTION UPDATE + GREAT VIEW
G. sent this image from 99 Hudson of the final work at Citibank’s renovated HQ. Maybe things are wrapping up? The neighbors to the south (and likely other directions) will be relieved, since they have lived with after-hours work for years…

COLOR SPOTTED ON NASSAU
The reader known as Hudson River sent over these images from Nassau and John, where a worker told her that the painted sidewalks would be there all month, and the holiday market started yesterday.

ONLY IN TRIBECA…
Can you hear a Korean opera singer perform traditional folk songs at a Michelin-starred restaurant while the beverage director serves liquor only found in Korea. This was part of the celebration (and tasting) of Korean desserts held last week at Jungsik.

  1. In addition to the Alsatian Christmas Village debut on Thursday at 5:00 PM, there is also the Tree Lighting at the NY Stock Exchange (with various performances and appearances from 2-6 PM) and the Holiday Lights celebration at the South Cove in BPC from 6:00 – 8:00. The Seaport lit its tree last night and Brookfield Place and the Oculus already have all of their decorations up. Ice rinks are up and running at Brookfield and atop Pier 17. It’s a beautiful time of the year downtown and every year it gets better.
