MAKING MORE ATHLETIC KIDS…
Gene Schafer of ARC Athletics and the studio’s physical therapist and trainer, Meg Tyner, are teaming up on a new venture: speed, strength and agility conditioning for kids ages 7 and up. More TK when they are up and running in January, but in the meantime, the business will be a franchise of Parisi Speed School and will be located in a 2000-square-foot space on the lower level of 79 Leonard. Battery Park City Authority is hosting a chess tournament on Saturday, Dec. 7, 9a to 1p at 6 River Terrace. The event is for ages 5 to 12 and costs $15 to attend. A HOLIDAY FOR PEDESTRIANS ON NASSAU
The city Department of Transportation is closing one block of Nassau Street to traffic between Fulton and John in order to give pedestrians more room to walk and to help local businesses. The vehicle ban will be in effect on weekdays only now through Dec. 31 (excluding the 24th and 25th) and from noon to 6. The vendors along Nassau are from the Bronx Night Market. While closing this small stretch of Nassau could be fun, why not go whole hog and close Nassau from Wall to Spruce and really see how this thing works? Baby steps maybe? But shutting down just one block of one street seems like more trouble than it’s worth…
