Shane Townley, who opened NYA (New York Art) Gallery at 5 Franklin Place last March, has added a cafe with a companion gallery space to his repertoire. (Thanks to J. for the heads up.) His original business includes a white box gallery on the Franklin Place alleyway as well as 7,000 square feet of studio space below. This new venture has an 800-square-foot coffee shop in the front with an entrance on Broadway, as well as a 4000-square-foot gallery space in the back.
This is a soft open, with hours from 9 to 6. Once things get going full-steam in February, expect hours to be 7 to 7. For now there is coffee and tea, pastries and breads by Balthazar and specialty aged cheeses by Crown Finish Caves. To come: a vegetarian lunch menu with grilled cheese, smoothies, sandwiches, salads, etc. But even at half-speed, this is a nice edition to a quiet stretch of Broadway. That’s Shane in the middle in the photo below, so say hi if you stop in.
