C. asks: “What is going to happen to the space on created when the Rector Street bridge is gone?”
The BPCA referred me to NYCEDC, which is the agency in charge of the removal of the bridge. The deconstruction should be done by May, then the city will also restore the space created when the landings are no longer there, with an ETA of October.
On the west side that means an expansion and reconfiguration of the basketball courts, and an expansion of the garden beds in Liberty Community Gardens.
On the east side, the sidewalk will be restored and expanded.
The new West Thames bridge is a block to the south.

Nope. The bridge is gone. The deconstruction was completed last week. The footings are gone. The cleanup of the debris is nearly done and the work to expand the basketball courts and the garden has already begun. Seems like the project should be completely finished in a matter of weeks. October? Well, then again this is a government job, so it will probably be completed many years from now and many millions over budget, just like the replacement West Thames bridge.
Just saying what BPCA said when I asked.
The new operator of TribecaCitizen clearly doe snot walk 10-miles a day like the former owner who was a dog walker. She is phoning it in.
In fairness to TC, the Rector Street bridge is not in Tribeca and the BPCA has nothing to do with Tribeca.
