The fashion workout chain, which started in 1998 in London and opened here in 2017, has closed all its US retail stores permanently, including ours at Church and Franklin that was in the same building as Tracy Anderson.

The company was founded in 1998 by Tamara Hill-Norton as a small boutique in Notting Hill that offered athletic gear designed for women by women — and that came in colors. They went on to open 50 stores in the UK, 12 here and more across the globe; there are 32 open now in the UK and two in Hong Kong. Nordstrom in the US still carries the line. (Bloomberg reports that the company is also preparing to put itself on the block.)

“We are sad to confirm that the pandemic has caused us to close our 12 US stores,” the website says. “We’ve loved being part of the community and we look forward to seeing you soon in Nordstrom and online at sweatybetty.com.”
