December 14, 2020 Restaurant/Bar News
Wisefish Poké has indeed closed permanently, as noted in comments from Remington. (I was hoping it was just temporary…) Founders Bryan Cowan (Monitor Group) and Drew Crane (Goldman) both were refugees from the finance world when they opened the first restaurant in Chelsea in 2016. Ours opened a couple years later — in October 2018. This from Crane, via LinkedIn:
“Thank you for reaching out and hope you are well. Unfortunately we have permanently closed Wisefish, both Tribeca and Chelsea. As a small, independent restaurant, we just couldn’t survive the pandemic. It devastated our business. We appreciated everyone’s support and loyalty in Tribeca, and we loved being a part of the neighborhood for the 1.5 years we were there, and we will miss it immensely.”
Crane first had the Hawaiian staple while on a trip to Maui, and traveled the island to sample as much as he could. He came home with a plan to start the restaurant. There’s a nice Q&A here from Spoon University, the publication about cooking for and by college students.
