JAY MCINERNEY REFLECTS ON THE ODEON
Jay McInerney writes an Ode to the Odeon in Town & Country (?!) and notes that New Yorkers sacrifice living space for the cultural opportunities just outside our doors. “Restaurants serve as their dining rooms and their living rooms, the places where they meet friends, relax, celebrate—and watch their fellow New Yorkers doing the same. Like millions of New Yorkers, I don’t see restaurants as some kind of luxury—they are the heart and soul of this city.”

MEN MUGGED ON WALKER
The Post reports that police are looking for three men who impersonated NYPD officers and mugged two victims outside of 38 Walker on Friday. They stole $350 before escaping on the R train.

COMMENTARY ON PLANS FOR 250 WATER
The president of the New York Landmarks Conservancy comments in an op-ed in the Architects Newspaper that the Howard Hughes Corporation’s plans for 250 Water should not have been approved. “The Landmarks Preservation Commission is not ‘safeguarding a parking lot’ by asking the Howard Hughes Corporation to redesign its proposal for a high-rise building within the South Street Seaport Historic District. It is doing its job, protecting a low-scale oasis of 19th-century masonry buildings that anchor New York City to its earliest beginnings as a port.”

  1. the clip on Gee Whiz with Chris’s son made me cry. So happy to see the outpouring of love and support for my favorite diner in my neighborhood since I moved here 30 years ago.

  2. Thanks, Pam. Save Our Seaport.

  3. I hope Tribeca remembers the kindness of Peter and Andy always. They are truly what represents memories of the “old Tribeca.”
