Police are searching for suspect in attempted rape

A 25-year-old woman told police that she was assaulted on Franklin Street on Saturday night, after a man approached her on the F train and followed her out of the subway. (Of course there is no F train at Chambers, so I have to assume either the victim or the police got this wrong and maybe she meant the E?)

The incident began at around 9p, when the suspect engaged the woman in conversation on the northbound train from Brooklyn, and “detrained” with her a the Chambers Street station. He then continued to follow her — the video shows the woman blurred out as they are walking out of the train and on the sidewalk. When the two of them approached 72 Franklin Street (between Church and Broadway, across from Billy’s Bakery) the man pushed the woman into the vestibule of the building and attempted to sexually assault her. The victim fought him off and the man fled.

The NYPD is asking for the public’s assistance identifying the individual in the video: 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) the Crime Stoppers website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM, or on Twitter @NYPDTips.

  1. I believe the F train has been rerouted on the A line on weekends lately for Sandy repairs, which could explain the confusion and would align with her report of being on a Northbound F train from Brooklyn to Chambers Street. Thank god the victim wasn’t seriously hurt and hopefully they nab the perpetrator!

  2. Obviously a troll. Pam this needs to be removed and idiot blocked or outed.

  3. I would have preferred outed!!!!

  4. Thank god she fought him off. Hopefully they find this man before he does it to someone else. Hoping and praying the trains get safer for all. What a downhill for us commuters and the MTA employees safety. Praying for our city.

  5. Good for her for fighting her off. Strong woman. I’m so sorry this happened. Looking forward for things to improve with all.
