NOT 1 BUT 2 IMMERSIVE VAN GOGHS
I can’t decide whether this is cool or cheesy — just where does it fall on the NY Mag matrix of highbrow/lowbrow? Either way, it’s coming to two downtown locations (thanks to J. for straightening me out on this) — Pier 36, the big warehouse between the Manhattan and Williamsburg bridges, and 300 Vesey. (Lily Collins tells you all about the Pier 36 in the vid above.) I can’t really track the difference between them, so check this story on SecretNYC if you need the compare and contrast.
WALKING HEADS
Local resident (and painter) Basmat Levin sent this vid of a pair of heads with feet making their way from the Black Wall Street Gallery on Canal to their new home at 56 Leonard.
HIGH END COCKTAIL BAR COMING TO FRONT
CB1 approved a cocktail bar for 220 Front St. between Peck Slip and Beekman, just north of Pier 17. The applicant — Jakob Trummer — said his family has grown its own herbs for 100 years, using them for cocktails and elixirs. It will be a juice bar during the day with salad bowls and small bites — think avocado toast — and his unique cocktail concept at night. It’s 800 square feet — 35 people with 20 seats. Hours will be 12 to 12 on weekdays, 12 to 1a on weekends. No live music — just Sonos. Kristin noted in comments that this is the former Bin 220 and it looks like it will be called Something Blue. There will be mixology and cooking classes on the weekdays. He said he will open as soon as he gets his liquor license.
FORGE TO COME IN FEBRUARY ’22
CB1 was scheduled to discuss Marc Forgione’s plans for Forge in the former Brushstroke space, but the committee chair said they had had complaints that he did not post notices in time. Of course he did — this is not his first rodeo — and had the photos time stamped to show it, but they still asked him to come back next month. Who the heck would complain about this plan? And once you know he’s on the agenda, why can’t you make a Zoom meeting? Anyway, Forgione said his schedule is to have the new restaurant open in February. He will be back on the Licensing Committee agenda in June.

Turns out I was mistaken about the name! Something Blue was a temporary pop up, not sure of the name of the new cocktail bar, but excited to see something take over the Bin 220 space so quickly!
