KING LEAR, WITH A HAPPY ENDING FROM 1681
My pal and Pace English professor Sid Ray did the dramaturgy for this play, which she says is a super fun night out, especially if you are outdoors on a blanket in Lower Manhattan. New York Classical Theatre will perform King Lear with Nahum Tate’s 1681 “happy ending,” a version that was performed almost exclusively until the 1840s. Performances are at 7p, July 27 through August 8, Tuesday to Sunday except July 29. CAFE CLEMENTINE STILL SIMMERING
When I checked in with Barbara in late June, the landlord at 325 Greenwich was in the middle of filing some sort of permit for the building, which is being repointed. It sounded like the city is backed up on their end as well, but Café Clementine signed the lease, so they are ready to begin. (If they are paying rent while the landlord gets permits from a backed up DOB, that shows you why it’s so tough to make small business work around here.) At the time they were still hoping for Labor Day. Here’s hoping…
