FROM THE BATTERY TO THE GWB IN PAINT
I got the best treat delivered to my lobby: a series of photographs of paintings of the city from The Battery to the GWB — all taped together to create a Manhattan-length panorama. It was sent by painter and longtime Tribecan Dianne Talan. I had to tape it up in my hallway to find a wall long enough, and took this video to show it off. The vid is a bit dizzying but you get the idea.

Dianne created it for the retaining wall of a parking lot for 811 North Broadway in White Plains, owned by Frank Taliercio, whose dermatology practice is there. He also owns floors in a building on Reade Street, which is how he first spotted Dianne’s work on the greenscreens covering the construction on Chambers Street.

It took Dianne 30 days to complete it this summer — since it is 90 feet long in total, all on an exposed concrete wall that Taliercio now has lit at night to highlight the mural. The wall starts off low with Lady Liberty (at about 3 feet high) and as it defines the boundary of the parking lot, it grows in height to about 5 feet by the time it reaches the GWB.

Count on this being one of my next field trips!

THE SOUNDS OF DOWNTOWN
The Downtown Alliance just sent me this ad and I had to mention it here since it’s pretty fun: their staff has created six playlists on Spotify that hit the themes of NYC, water and rivers, girl power (for Fearless Girl), and tunes for walking around the Oculus and the WTC. Clever. And is that the first time a BID has made a mixed tape?

RAINBOWS OVER MARIAH CAREY
Just came across this post from Mariah Carey taken from her apartment roof deck at 90 Franklin in summer 2020 — I think I remember that rainbow. If only that had been the turnaround we were all waiting for…
