This is above my pay grade, but I am going to try to keep up anyway. The re-redistricting maps have been finalized, and it seems we now have two primaries this year. How that made any sense to anyone is a mystery to me, but maybe asking for commonsense to be applied in the case of state government is unreasonable to begin with. Election Day is Nov. 8.

CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT 10 (NY10)
This is now our congressional district, and as you may recall its nickname was “Zabar’s to Nathan’s.” It is now something like “the White Horse to Holy Schnitzel” since the district’s northern boundary is now more or less 16th Street and Coney Island has been carved out as well — the district ends just south of Borough Park. That also means that Jerry Nadler, who has held the seat since 1992 and lives near Lincoln Center, will run for District 12 against Carolyn Maloney of the UES among other challengers.

And since there is no Constitutional requirement that a candidate live in the district (they most only live in the state), Mondaire Jones, who was recently elected to Congress in the 17th District in Westchester and Putnam counties (and who is from there) will run in our district. His rationale: the district includes Greenwich Village, which he considers the birthplace of the LGBTQ+ movement and since he is gay, he has a connection here.

Also, after declaring recently and registering with the FEC, Brad Hoylman has already dropped out. Not everyone here has registered yet; the deadline is June 10. There are four other people who *have* registered (including Jerry Nadler) but have not raised any money.
