More coming soon — or already here!

JAPANESE FUSION IS OPEN ON DUANE
Ajisai on Duane, which has taken over the former Tokyo Bay space on Duane between Greenwich and Staple, has opened. (Thanks to comments from Pree and Pauline F.) Hours seem to be 11a to 10p. 646-422-7828. More soon, of course!

BLANK STREET COFFEE COMING TO CHURCH
M. caught sight of the sign up just around the corner from Warren: Blank Street Coffee now coming to 125 (or so) Church. By my count this would be their 20th brick-and-mortar in the city — which is incredible since they were just founded in summer 2020. They also have several cute mint-green trucks in the Village and Brooklyn. Forbes reports that they raised $7 million in seed capital and $25 million in series A funding all in a few months last year. From Forbes: “So what makes this Brooklyn-based startup that launched only a year ago such a darling among large institutions? Cofounders Vinay Menda and Issam Freiha conclude marrying ‘high quality products, ultra convenience, and fair prices’ is what has made the company overall successfully carve out a sweet spot in a very saturated coffee space, adding how Blank Street’s top-line revenue has increased by 15 times since January 2021.”

THE HIDEAWAY IS LESS HIDDEN
Since the Citi Bike station moved down the block, The Hideaway now has a cute set up that seems to match the Sunday & Monday blue crab special…

BUBBY’S BEFORE YOUR FLIGHT!
Well, it’s decided. New York City airports have come a long way. Bubby’s has opened a restaurant at the newly opened Delta Terminal C at LaGuardia and it looks adorable. The terminal opened on June 4 — Delta spent $4 billion on it — and Concourse E has 10 new gates and new restaurant options. There are two more concourses to come.

  1. We went to Ajisai last week and it was delicious! Really happy to have it as a new addition in the neighborhood. We will go back for sure.

  2. All great news. But — and this a important — I wish restaurants would understand that planters provide homes for rats. They nest inside them — artificial plant or real. The Hideway’s decor needs to be reconsidered. Love their food.

    • Re: Planter Rats (and I speak from experience) – they don’t actually nest in the plants, they burrow in the dirt. (Equally disgusting, but a distinction.) Remarkably easy fix: lay chicken wire on the surface of the dirt, cover with decorative gravel, and the rats leave the planters alone.

  3. welcome to new neighbor Ajisai!

  4. Artesano is a new Peruvian restaurant coming to 90 Chambers (The old Kaede location). I met the owners – great guys. Also spent time in Peru recently – great food. Super stoked for this place to open up!!!

    • Soooo excited for this new Peruvian place in our neighborhood .. thats one type of food that doesnt have that many good restaurants in the city: Peruvian.

  5. Bubby’s is at the airport. Omg I didn’t realize it was such a big brand.
