Eataly opening another location in Soho

The Post had the story first: Eataly is opening another location in a Brookfield property at 200 Lafayette, at the northeast corner with Broome. I couldn’t get anyone at Brookfield or Eataly to confirm, and The Post got it from “industry” sources, but now everyone has run it so it seems for sure. They are taking 18,000 square feet on the ground floor and lower levels. There’s also a story in The Real Deal if you prefer that version.

Eataly opened it’s original location at Fifth and 23rd in 2010; the downtown spot on the second floor of 4 World Trade Center opened in 2016.

From The Post: “Eataly sold a majority stake to Investindustrial in September for a roughly $200 million infusion to bolster its finances and bring its high quality sustainable ‘Made in Italy’ products to more global locations. At that time, Eataly had 44 shops in 15 countries, including Italy — with eight in the United States along with others in Canada, the United Arab Emirates, Japan, Germany, Great Britain, France, Sweden and Brazil. Chef Mario Batali helped to bring Eataly to the United States, but was ousted in 2018 under a cloud of sexual misconduct.”

  1. I love Eataly but won’t this syphon business away from an already ailing Little Italy?

  2. Speaking of Little Italy, in all my years in NYC, I’ve never had a meal there….I’ve assumed the quality is questionable and it’s aimed for tourists. Maybe that’s an unfair judgement. Can anyone recommend good dining in Little Italy? I’d give it a try….

    • I highly recommend Di Palo on Grand Street for all your cheeses and meats. It’s a small Italian grocery store that also has ready made pastas, sauces and other food. They always have traditional Italian goods around the holidays. The staff is fantastic too. They have been in Little Italy forever!

    • Jimmy at Benito One, (old Italian charm) and Benny and Paul at La Mella are my go to places.

Mulberry Bar has good food, too. Nice, historical locations with good food and service at all three.
