••• When I first noticed yesterday’s street fair along the western border of City Hall Park, I was annoyed, because all street fairs are annoying—they always remind me of the slum scenes in The Constant Gardener. (This one had the usual schlock, and as an extra aggravation the guy hawking bluetooth headsets was yammering into a mic.) But then I wondered if taking over part of the wide Broadway sidewalk isn’t a better option than closing an entire street, choking traffic and distracting customers from visiting the businesses on that street. If street fairs have to be allowed—and I still don’t understand why they do—then there could be worse places for them. Any thoughts?

••• “Our concept is moving shows around and bringing fine art photography to the people rather than a permanent gallery,” says Mark Blair, founder of Glimmer Gallery, which is opening an exhibit Friday, Nov. 20, at L&O Frame (140 Duane St.). This is Glimmer’s second show; the first was in Montauk over the summer. “I’m friends with L & O Frame and spoke to them about letting me running a show in Tribeca,” says Blair, who has lived in the neighborhood in the past and now lives at Hudson and Canal. The show, The Vanishing Continent, consists of photographs of Antarctica by Seth Resnick; it’ll be up through Dec. 20, and there are opening receptions Nov. 20 (7–9 p.m.) and Nov. 21–22 (noon–5 p.m.).

••• “A fire broke out in a third-floor bathroom of Stuyvesant High School in Tribeca on Friday morning. The school has been cleared, and so far no injuries have been reported, a spokesman for the Fire Department said.” (The New York Times)
