MAN ON WIRE SCREENING + TALK
Coolest-screening-ever alert: The Downtown Alliance will screen “Man on Wire,” the documentary about Philippe Petit’s 1974 highwire act at the World Trade Center, on Jan. 24 at 6p at the Regal Battery Park. The screening will be followed by a conversation between Petit and groundbreaking choreographer and performer Elizabeth Streb. The documentary won the Academy Award in 2008. Tickets are $10 and all proceeds go will be donated to the STREB organization.
PUBLIC OBSCENITIES AT SOHO REP
Shayok Misha Chowdhury’s “Public Obscenities” opens Feb. 15 at Soho Rep. The play is a family drama that follows the story of Choton, a Bengali American PhD student, and Raheem, his Black American cinematographer boyfriend, on an extended visit to Choton’s family home in Kolkata. It’s written in Bangla and English and features a multi-generational cast.
DANCE FILMS FROM MOVING VISIONS
Tribecan and choreographer Loretta Thomas and her dance company Moving Visions will host an evening of four dance films on Jan. 21 at 7:30p at Gibney Dance’s studios at 280 Broadway.
DOWNTOWN POPART COLLAB
Downtown artist and muralist Timothy Goodman, whose work covers the walls at Target, was engaged to do a new logo for Downtown Dance Factory. Goodman also has a new book coming out this month. He had his first solo show at the Richard Taittinger Gallery in Soho in 2021.
