FASHION SQUAD SCHOOL EXPANDS TO CT
The Fashion Squad School, founded by Tribecan Layana Aguilar, is opening a second location in Greenwich, CT, this year. She moved her Tribeca studio from Hudson to Warren in September 2021. Layana also just received the Trailblazer Award from the Tiffany Brown Foundation during Fashion Week. Brown is a fashion designer and philanthropist whose non-profit provides mentorship and jobs in the fashion industry for young women.
GEO INSTALLATION ON BROADWAY
The Downtown Alliance has a new installation by design studio Hou de Sousa titled “Geo” — a large-scale, 30-by-10-foot dome filled with brightly colored rope that create corridors for visitors to walk through. The installation is on the plaza in front of 140 Broadway at Liberty, right next to the Noguchi cube. The Downtown Alliance previously partnered with the studio to present “Ziggy,” another light installation at 200 Water. This will be up till March 30.
BURIED ALIVE IN BOOKS?
My guess is the owners of the condo here are renovating and have the books piled up in the window — still I prefer the idea that the entire apartment is just filled with books, like an aquarium with water.
SNEAK PEEK: OLE & STEEN
I happened to be in the Flatiron so tried Ole & Steen and the breakfast sandwiches are something to look forward to. Ours should be open in April on Church and Barclay in the old Aroma space. Above, the open face Rueben Smørrebrød and the Danish Potato Salad Smørrebrød. (And because I couldn’t resist going down this rabbit hole, it turns out there is no English word for the letter o with a slash. It is just called a slashed o or an o with stroke.)
