Seen & Heard: Local author’s new novel + reading

A NEW NOVEL & READING BY CHERYL FISH
Tribeca resident and BMCC English professor Cheryl J. Fish recently published her debut novel, “Off the Yoga Mat” (Livingston Press/University of West Alabama) and will be reading from it in the NYPL’s local author series on Monday, April 3, 5p, at the New Amsterdam branch at 9 Murray. Set in New York City, Finland and New Orleans, it is the story of three characters coming of middle age and seeking to reinvent themselves. At the reading, yoga and fitness instructor Sarah Garcea will lead a few chair yoga poses and be in conversation with Fish about themes of self-reinvention, compromise and creativity in the novel. THE EVENT AT CHURCH STREET SCHOOL IS APRIL 4
Church Street School’s annual gala, The Event, will be held on Tuesday, April 4, at Thalassa Restaurant on Franklin and will honor Wilson Montuori, world-renowned guitarist and beloved CSSMA music faculty member for over 20 years; and Rebecca Weller, producer, social entrepreneur, founder of Guitar Mash, and longtime supporter of the school. They are changing up the format a bit by eliminating the sit-down dinner and packing the night with live music (including a special performance from Binky Griptite of Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings), dance parties and a live painting installation. More info and tickets here.

WALKING TOUR GRANTS
Applications are now open for the Alliance for Downtown New York’s Walking Tour Incubator Grant Program. This innovative program will provide grants of up to $12,500 to five entrepreneurs who design a compelling and original walking tour in Lower Manhattan. This program, the first incubator of its kind from a destination marketer, encourages walking tours that offer fresh perspectives and go beyond the typical narratives of the Lower Manhattan neighborhood. The deadline for applications is April 10. See more here.

NEW ADDITION FOR AIRE ANCIENT BATHS?
Aire Ancient Baths, the subterranean spa on Franklin, has taken the storefront next door, but they won’t tell me what for! It’s a big secret. Hopefully more soon?
